On Going Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer and start making a difference in a young girl's life!
Monthly Program Volunteers - We are looking for individuals
in the community who want to share their hobby or talent with us!
Prepare a fun activity and share it with us any day of the week. Activities
the girls have enjoyed in the past are scrapbooking, card making,
game night, cooking, baking, and craft night.
Educational Programs - Help us teach our girls! Volunteers are needed to help provide educational programs for our girls; this can include art, music, poetry, dance, exercise and much more! Monthly and weekly spots available.
Mentors and Special Friends - Mentors are needed to work with clients on an individual basis to help build their self-esteem and teach them important life skills.
Tutors - 88% of our girls did not attend school on a consistent basis until coming to Excelsior Youth Center. Tutor a teen in basic reading, math, science or history and provide them the tools for a lifetime of learning!
Adopt a Cottage -Get a group of your favorite people together and make time each month to visit one of our 10 cottages.
Inspirational or Ethnic Speakers - Have a knack for inspiring others? Inspirational and ethnic speakers are needed throughout the year to help enrich the lives of our girls.
Special Events - Project volunteers are needed throughout the year to help set-up and tear down large events throughout the year.
Canine Healer Pet Therapy - Canine Healers is a specialized therapy group offered to the girls at Excelsior Youth Center. If your dog is a registered therapy dog and you have one afternoon a week to give, then we need your help! If your dog is not yet certified we can help you get started.
Additional Campus Needs
Spanish Speaking Tutors and Translators - Excelsior Youth Center
is in need of Spanish speaking persons to help tutor clients in the
classroom and after school with their homework needs. In addition,
we have many clients and families whose first language is Spanish,
in which a translator would be exceptionally helpful during formal
therapy sessions.
Daytime Tutors - The Excelsior classrooms have recently transitioned to a year-round educational program. With this change, has come the need for additional help during the school day. Volunteers are needed to assist the math, science, and language arts programs. These tutors will be utilized to help clients who are need of additional help and instruction with their school work. Helpers are needed between 9am and 4pm.
Graduation Event Helpers - Excelsior Youth Center hosts a day of fun and celebration for the graduating seniors three times per year. On the day of graduation, Excelsior staff members are busy with hosting a family brunch and welcome party, prior to the formal commencement ceremony and reception. Volunteers are needed on graduation day to help with these various events. This volunteer opportunity is a week day event.
Alteration/Seamstress - The clients at Excelsior Youth center are required to wear school uniforms. Many of our clients are in need of skilled persons to help with small alterations so their uniforms fit in the best way possible. Sew-a-thons are hosted once every three months and volunteers are needed on an as-needed basis for these sewing events.
