Excelsior Youth Center Receives Its Largest Restricted Gift...Ever

Excelsior Youth Center, a leading residential treatment center for troubled girls, recently received its largest single gift ever awarded from the James & Beatrice Salah Charitable Trust. The $164,771 restricted donation will support Excelsior's Whole Girl Initiative, a year-long program to ensure Excelsior provides each girl with an activity where she can receive praise and experience success.

"All of us at Excelsior are overwhelmed with the Salah Family's confidence in our efforts to change young girls' lives," said Joan Gabrielson, executive director of Excelsior Youth Center. "This extraordinary gift will touch the lives of more than 350 troubled young girls this next year. We're truly grateful for the Salah family's generous support."

Excelsior's Whole Girl Initiative introduces at-risk girls to a variety of activities, including art workshops, dance programs and cultural experiences. The activities ensure each girl can achieve success, which for many girls is a first-time experience. The activities improve self-image and help motivate the girls to actively and productively participate in treatment and education.

"We are simply amazed by the extraordinary work of Excelsior Youth Center," said Noreen Salah Burpee, who helps lead the Salah Trust. "We are so proud to support an organization that is not just changing lives, but saving lives."

Newly established and based on the East Coast, the James & Beatrice Salah Charitable Trust is a private foundation that supports nonprofit agencies that encourage individuals to become productive citizens and organizations that stregthen families and communities. The Trust is headed by Noreen Salah Burpee, her three children, Megan Fearnow, Fred Churbuck, George Taylor and Noreen's brother, Joseph Salah.
